Whats it all about

We’re all about equations

As a Core Subject of the National Curriculum every learner at St Cuthbert’s studies Mathematics. We aim to challenge and support all students, to help them reach their potential and develop both real life and thinking skills.

Our students are taught in ability sets with an evolving learning path used to ensure the best progress throughout their time at St Cuthbert’s. We use Half Termly assessments and CATS tests to decide on the set that will be most beneficial for each student. We encourage real life skills and deepen thinking skills with multi-step problems to solve.

We start in Year 7 with a programme that includes mastering key skills from Key Stage 2, and an introduction to new concepts. In Year 9, there is much more emphasis on preparing students for their GCSEs, and our learners are entered into the most suitable Tier to stretch and challenge their learning.

As well as traditional methods, wherever possible we look to further students' learning experience through educational visits, visiting speakers, and learning workshops.
