Award winning author, Nikki Sheehan visits St Cuthbert's

28 September 2017

Today, we welcomed 2017, Carnegie nominated author Nikki Sheehan to our school, along with Year 6 pupils from Holy Cross Catholic Primary School.

Nikki spoke to our Year 7 students and Holy Cross pupils about the creativity that lies, sometimes hidden, within all of us and the need to keep trying and trying again, until we are happy with the work that we produce and never to give in to the criticism of others. She told us about how her ideas for stories develop and come together – sometimes from the most unusual sources.

The whole audience sat, entranced, as Nikki read extracts from her book Goodnight Boy and spoke briefly about her Carnegie Nominated “Swan Boy”. The forest of hands that shot into the air for the question time at the end of our visit showed how much we all enjoyed the talk and the disappointment was evident when the question session had to be cut short, as we ran out of time.

As always, our students behaved impeccably during the visit, as did our Year 6 guests from Holy Cross. We would like to thank Nikki for her visit, today, and her amazing, inspirational presentation. You never know, we could well have a future Carnegie nominee lurking amongst us.

For those students who missed the chance to buy Nikki’s books today, you can still order them from the LRB. The deadline for orders is Friday 6th October 2017.
