Holocaust Memorial Day - 27 January 2017

24 January 2017

"The duty of the survivor is to bear testimony to what happened ... You have to warn people that these things can happen, that evil can be unleashed. Race hatred, violence, idolatries -- they still flourish." Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor.

Commemorative art piece:

Students have been asked to stamp leaves/blossoms onto dead trees using ink pads and their fingers. All the trees completed will be collated into a commemorative art collage. The aim of the tree is to symbolise the 'How can life go on?'  - the theme of this year's Holocaust Memorial Day - HMD.

During Sacred Time

Students will be discussing Holocaust Remembrance and why it is so important to remember those who have lost their lives.

History film club:

On Thursday after school History Film Club will be screening a special showing of 'The Book Thief' - all year groups are welcome.

Holocaust Memorial Day 2017 reflection time:

On Friday from 1pm onwards, all staff and students are invited to H2 for a quiet reflection time. We will share readings, prayers and survivor testimonies by candlelight.

Here you will find some alternative information and resources also if you wish to share this with your form groups. The HMD website also includes faith pages containing prayers.
