Paul Challoner

What job/study are you doing right now and tell us a little about it?

Tenant Liaison Officer on home improvement project in Flint, North Wales. I also play drums in a couple of rock bands.

Did you do any further/higher education?

No, but attended various courses related to my work.

How did you decide on your career path and what is/was most interesting about your work?

26 years at Ravenhead Glass until it went out of business. I then worked as a driver labourer for a building firm and got promoted to Tenant Liaison Officer due to experience as a supervisor at Ravenhead.

Can you share a couple of fond memories of your time at St Cuthbert's?

The cheese and piccalilli sandwich wrapped in cling film we hid in one of the lockers, each week we monitored the development of mould eventually someone unwrapped it and we ran a mile as the stench permeated through the lower corridor. The school cross country and looking back at the carnage of 1st and 2nd year pupils trampled under foot by the skinhead element of the 4th year. Being sent out of RE as I slowly lost my faith and questioned everything and voiced my opinions a little too much.

Did you have a favourite/influential teacher? What made them so important to you?

Mr Gannon, my Art teacher, allowed me to take an idea and run with it. Mr Wood, my Technical Drawing teacher and my form master in 3W who sadly passed away during my 3rd year.

What advice would you give our current students?

Study hard, it's a tough life out there and if someone has a choice of 20 people they will always look for the ones with the best qualifications.
